JIMSA PROFILE (July 2010)
The Journal JIMSA is the official publication of International Medical Sciences Academy. Its contents focus on scientific editorial, original research work, interesting case reports, update/review articles literature review / drug therapy update atc, belonging to different disciplines of medicine; symposia and special issues on topics of current interest are a regular feature.
The objectives of the journal are to provide a forum to the specialists (Fellows/Non-Fellows) belonging to different disciplines of medical sciences, to project their original work / interesting case material and share their experience through comprehensive reviews / updates, symposia, special numbers / supplements etc The multi disciplinary approach adopted by the journal is rather unique and has led to its expanded scope and wider circulation.

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS
The Journal of the International Medical Sciences Academy (JIMSA) is published quarterly, and serves as a medium for publication of work done by Fellows/Members of the Academy. The authors should provide a written undertaking signed by the senior author that article submitted has neither been published elsewhere nor sent for publication at the time of submission.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to modify articles so as to conform to the Journal style and standard. The views expressed in the articles will, however, remain the opinion of the authors, and the Editorial Board accepts no responsibility for these.
The manuscript of article should be submitted in triplicate, typed double-spaced on standard bond papers with a 3 cm margin all round and should be sent to the Editor, JIMSA, along with one CD (Photograph/ figures/ tables included). Due to space contain , audharsan reuested to therapy of Update/Review article. Original article should not exceed 10 typewritten pages: case report, brief communication, procedure, current drug therapy – 6 pages. The article should be preceded by an abstract not exceeding 350 words; The manuscript should be arranged in the following sequence - title page, with address for Correspondence, abstract, introduction, material and methods, results (or case report), tables, legends to figures.
REFERENCES: Number should not exceed 30 for update / review, 15 for original articles, 8 for brief communication, case report, procedure and current drug therapy and 3 for letter to the Editor (correspondence). The names of all authors should be mentioned up to three; if more than three, first three names should be mentioned, followed by et al. The punctuations in References should be as follows:

Tables, if any should be at the end of manuscript.
ILLUSTRATIONS: These should be on glossy paper and submitted in triplicate. The figure number, article title and top of illustration should be indicated on the back of photograph alongwith details of the individual illustration. More than 4 illustrations will be charged to the authors at prevalent rates, for original / update articles; for case report not more than 2 figures are allowed.
CORRESPONDENCE : Letter to the Editor may comment on articles published in the Journal of may provide original date or information. Letters commenting on a Journal article should be received within six weeks of the article’s publication, such letters will be forwarded to the senior author of the article, reply is expected within six weeks. In the absence of a reply the letter will be published with a note stating so.
Manuscript Submission:
Check List
- Copyright statement/declaration (not submitted or published elsewhere) signed by all the authors.
- Three hard copies of manuscript with illustrations attached to each; CD in addition is essential.
- Title page: Title of manuscript, Name(s) and affiliation of author(s); institution(s) and city(ies) address of corresponding author (Tel; Fax;e-mail).
- Abstract should highlight objectives, methods, results, conclusions.
- Article (double-spaced on A/4 size paper) : material & methods, results, discussion ; India literature must be referred, reference numbered in text as they appear.
- References maximum number of references for update-20, original-10, case reports-6.
- Each table on separate sheet; maximum number-4 in original article.
- Photographs/Figures in envelope, each marked figure number on reverse with legends on separate sheet. Number not to exceed 3, preferable.
- Statement regarding adherance to standard ethical guidelines prescribed by ICMR 2000.
Peer Review Process:
All submitted articles are first screened by the Editorial Board to see if the article conforms to the standard & style of JIMSA as per guidelines/check list. The article is then sent to a member of the Peer Review Committee for thorough scrutiny before being accepted for publication.

The journal website “www. jimsaonline.com” has been acquired since 2004. Website gives detailed information about the activities of IMSA. The full text of the articles published in journal from July-Sept 2003 onwards can be accessed online by using password ‘userjimsa’. This facility is available not only for Fellow or Members but also for the non fellows and non members. International Fellows and Members can have an access to the full text of the articles published in quarterly issue of JIMSA through website.
JIMSA Circulation
The journal is sent free of cost of all the fellows and members of IMSA. There are some institutional members who subscribe the journal. Complimentary copy of the journal is also sent regularly to the Principle / Dean of most of the medical colleges in the country.

JIMSA BEST PUBLISHED ARTICLE AWARDS
Journal of International Medical Sciences Academy has instituted award for three (3) best original articles published during the previous year; The guidelines are as below:
- Original articles belonging to any discipline of medicine published in JIMSA during the calendar year.
- Award will be given to the Principal author /main researcher (co-author) of the selected article, on the recommendation of the JIMSA award committee.
- Number of awards: Three (3) annually, carrying a gold plated medal, citation and cash prize (1st Rs.3000/- , 2nd Rs.2000/- , 3rd Rs. 1000/-)
- Awardee should preferably be a fellow/member of IMSA; non-fellows/non members can also be considered for the award if the original work is outstanding ; and if selected for the award the awardee will get extra knowledge for selection as fellow/member of IMSA.
- Awardees should preferably plan to receive the award at the annual IMSA conference IMSACON.
JIMSA Travel Grant
(Approved by the CEC / BOT Meeting held on 26-1-2010)
- No of Grants – Two (2)
- Original Research work by a young researcher (age < 45 years) for presentation at IMSACON (and subsequent publication in JIMSA) every alternate year for travel with in the country.
- Research work should clearly project the objectives, selection of material, methodology adopted, results analysis with statistics, discussion and conclusions. A summary in 350 words highlighting why the paper should be considered for the award, must be enclosed.
- Travel Grant Award not exceeding Rs.8000/- per awardee, to cover the travel expenses with in the country; CEC may also recommend complementary registration for the awardee if funds are available.
- The abstract of the paper should be sent to the Chairman, Scientific Committee, IMSACON (for acceptance and presentation at the conference) bearing a level “JIMSA Travel Grant.”
- Full manuscript (8 copies) prepared as per the format of JIMSA (Check list on website ---) by post / email to Editor, JIMSA at office address bearing label “JIMSA Travel Grant”. The paper will be scrutinized by the JIMSA Award Committee, members Who will judge the presentation at the award session of IMSACON . The Travel Grant will be reimbursed to the awardee after the presentation at the IMSACON. Grant will be released to the awardee, after IMSACON.
- Announcement to the effect will be made after IMSACON at London for travel grants for IMSACON at Hyderabad in 2011.
- The selected articles will be accepted for publication in JIMSA only after the proper peer review by the referee.
